What is the age requirements to live here?
You or your spouse/partner must be 65 years old to apply and to live here.
Are there any home care services provided?
Asher is independent living, we do not provide meals or medical services. A hair dresser and foot care specialist come in to provide their services for a fee.
Is smoking allowed in the building?
Asher has a no smoking/vaping policy with a prohibition on all cigarettes, the various forms of tobacco, e-cigarettes, and cannabis that applies at the whole property at 490 Viewmount Drive.
Am I allowed to have a pet?
Asher has a no pet policy.
Which activities are available for tenants?
A host of activities occur with regular activities such as a coffee hour and weekly Bible Study. Other functions are planned by the tenants like summer BBQ’s, pot-luck dinners and special holiday event dinners. There is also a strong community with regular activities next-door at Bethel Pentecostal Church.
Is there a gym available?
We provide a physical activity room with several equipment pieces which are available for use at own risk.
Am I required to pay first and last month’s rent once lease is signed?
A first month’s rent is required to guarantee rental of the apartment unit. A last month’s rent is not required.

Apartments:
Asher has one and two bedroom apartments.
One Bedroom Apartments
A one bedroom apartment is 565 sq. ft. They come with a fridge, stove, pantry, in unit storage space and a balcony. There is an inventory of units with a walk-in shower.
Two Bedroom Apartments
The two bedroom apartment is 666 sq. ft. and equipped with a fridge, stove, pantry, in unit storage space and a balcony. Some of the units also have a walk-in shower.
Laundry Facilities
Each floor has a washer and clothes dryer which is shared by the tenants.
How to Apply:
Market Renting:
- To apply for market rent apartments, please call 613-723-7779 for an appointment to pick up the application. An application cannot be mailed.
- Complete the application and return to the Asher Place office. This will add your application to the waiting list for an apartment at Asher Place.
- When a unit becomes available, we will contact you to set an appointment to view the apartment.
Subsidized Renting:
If your desire is to rent a subsidized apartment at Asher Christian Seniors Inc., you must first register with the City of Ottawa: Housing Registry.
The Registry’s in-person services presently are at 731 Chapel Cres from Mon-Fri: 10am – 4:30pm. You can call the Housing Registry at 613-526-2088 and they are available Mon – Fri: 8:30am – 4:30 pm.
Governance:
Asher Christian Seniors Inc. is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors who are nominated for election from Asher’s membership list, all of whom must be a confirmed member at Bethel Pentecostal Church of Ottawa. The Board is ultimately responsible for governance as defined by the City of Ottawa Legislation and Agreements with the Service Manager, and the financial and various building mandates.
The Board of Directors and the Property Manager work together, sharing a common interest in the well-being of Asher Place. The Board is responsible for the Corporation and the Property Manager works to implement policies.
